Lödige Industries to Deliver Landmark Automated Parking System for the Iconic “De Sax” in Rotterdam

Warburg / Rotterdam, 10 November 2025 – Lödige Industries is proud to announce that it has been awarded the contract to deliver the fully automated parking system for the De Sax project on the iconic Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam – one of the most ambitious and architecturally striking urban developments in the Netherlands.

Designed by MVRDV Architects, in collaboration with BPD Bouwfonds Gebiedsontwikkeling and Synchroon Developers, De Sax will become an architectural symbol of Rotterdam’s creativity and modern spirit. Inspired by the elegant curves of a saxophone, the silver-toned twin towers are connected by a gold-coloured beam, reflecting light as if in motion. The building seems to move to its own rhythm – a masterpiece of design and engineering that perfectly captures the city’s dynamic energy. When complete, this award-winning development will offer 916 waterfront apartments, transforming the skyline of Rotterdam and setting new standards in contemporary urban living.

A Showcase of Innovation: Lödige’s State-of-the-Art Automated Parking System

At the heart of this extraordinary project lies Lödige’s cutting-edge automated car park, positioned above ground between the two towers and enclosed behind a striking glass façade. Spanning 10 levels and providing 334 parking spaces, including 34 EV charging bays, the system combines efficiency, safety, and elegance. Every detail has been designed for intelligent use of space, seamless operation, and maximum convenience for residents. A particular highlight is the custom-engineered, foam-based fire suppression system, specially certified for both conventional and electric vehicle fires – a world-leading safety innovation that sets new benchmarks for automated parking facilities.

The De Sax installation will represent the largest automated parking system project planned in the Netherlands to date, further underscoring Lödige’s pioneering role in automated mobility solutions. It follows the company’s successful delivery of the automated car park at Vijzelgracht in Amsterdam, currently one of the most advanced systems in the country.

Commitment Beyond Construction

Construction of De Sax will begin in November 2025, with Lödige joining the site in April 2028 and completion scheduled for May 2030. Beyond the system delivery, Lödige Industries will provide comprehensive maintenance and 24/7 remote monitoring, ensuring the installation operates safely, reliably, and efficiently throughout its lifetime. This project represents the culmination of over five years of dedicated planning, collaboration, and engineering excellence. With final approval from the City of Rotterdam granted earlier this year, all major partners are now officially on board.

“De Sax is more than just a building – it is a statement of what’s possible when architecture, technology and innovation come together in perfect harmony. We are honoured to contribute our expertise to a visionary project that embodies the future of urban mobility and design,” said Robert Bawn, Director Car Park Solutions at Lödige Industries.

“We are incredibly proud to be part of this outstanding project. De Sax combines bold design, sustainable technology and exceptional engineering – values that lie at the heart of Lödige Industries,” adds Jean-Pierre Piggen, Managing Director Lödige Benelux.

Together, the teams look forward to delivering a system that will make De Sax a true architectural and technological landmark on Rotterdam’s skyline.
